Nature Connection

Nature can be incredibly supportive of therapeutic processes, and I am passionate about integrating nature-based approaches into 1:1 therapy and small group approaches in schools. Please contact me to discuss availability and suitable locations.

Why nature-based therapy?

  • It is well recognised that being in nature can help us feel better. There is now a strong evidence base showing that nature helps increase positive mood and decrease negative emotions. Nature-connectedness has been linked with improved emotional regulation, reduced anxiety and depression, and increased happiness and life satisfaction.

  • Many children and young people find having therapy in a natural environment much more accessible and less intense, offering more space, reduced eye contact, and greater options for movement. It’s a very different experience to sitting in a room.

  • The natural environment promotes a calmer state of mind, conducive for emotional processing, whilst also stimulating sensory systems, inviting spontaneous play and freedom of expression.

  • Nature offers powerful metaphors linked to the weather, seasons and growth cycles providing concrete examples of difficulty passing and change being possible.
